Rules of the Bus
We understand your concerns. Placing your special needs child on a bus, where they may spend three hours of their day, can be worrisome. To alleviate your worries and ensure a safe, pleasurable ride for your child, we have developed and implemented these rules on each of our vans. Please read over these rules, discuss them with your child (if applicable) and ensure that everyone understands them.
1. There is a three-minute waiting period from the designated pick up time. We do not call into the home if you do not come out to the van. You must be waiting for your van five to seven minutes prior to the pickup time.
2. Drivers will not sound the horn. It is a disturbance of peace and they can be issued a summons.
3. We provide a fifteen-minute timeframe in the morning and afternoon. If a driver is running more than fifteen minutes late, you will receive a call. If you do not receive a call after fifteen minutes please call 908.876.5470. You may also call the driver directly.
4. Food or beverages are NOT permitted on Cassidy Transportation buses.
5. Personal audio and video games systems, such as iPods, are permitted. These devices must be operated in an appropriate manner and without disturbing the driver or other passengers. Large items, such as boom boxes, are not permitted on the bus.
6. Seat belts must be worn at all times.
7. Smoking is strictly prohibited. This includes electronic devices of any kind.
8. The driver cannot stop at stores or any other location other than the designated address provided by your district. If you have a change in pick up or drop off location, it must be first approved by your district, and secondly approved by Cassidy Transportation management. Please call 908.876.5470 or e-mail info@cassidytransinc.com after you have received approval by your district.
9. In the event that your school district is closed due to inclement weather, we will not provide transportation. Similarly, if your school district is operating on a delayed opening or early dismissal due to inclement weather, we must follow YOUR district’s schedule. Please ensure that you are available if there is an early dismissal and ensure that we have all emergency numbers.
10. An adult must be present at both pick up and drop off. The driver cannot leave the van, so please ensure that you walk your child to and from the bus. If your child is old enough to walk into a house without an adult present, please provide Cassidy Transportation with a letter to verify that your child may depart the bus without supervision.
11. If there is a behavior problem on the bus we will let the school know via a written report. If three conduct reports are issued, then we will request a one-day transportation only suspension. We have been extremely lucky and have very few incidents where suspension was necessary. By working together with the school and parents, many issues are quickly resolved.
